Overview:
Palmer is seeking to hire an Intermediate Terrestrial Ecologist located in Barrie/Muskoka area. We are seeking a qualified candidate to join our growing team of professionals that include terrestrial and aquatic ecologists, geomorphologists, hydrogeologists, and geotechnical engineers to work in a dynamic and collaborative work environment on multi-disciplinary projects.

Responsibilities:
The candidate should have a combination of skills including strong field plant identification, ecological land classification, wetland evaluation, and familiarity with wildlife habitat assessments. Work experience with Species at Risk screening and surveys is beneficial. Responsibilities will include:.
- Education Requirements: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science/management, biology, ecology or geography.
- 5+ years of experience in the areas of ecology, biology, plant science, or other related environmental discipline.
- Ecological Land Classification and/or Ontario Wetland Evaluation System certification or demonstrated experience.
- ISA Certified Arborist and GIS skills are an asset.
- Experience with wildlife surveys for herpetofauna, birds, and/or mammals.
- Excellent communication skills and experience working with multi-disciplinary teams to solve problems in a timely manner.
- Ability to work independently without supervision and manage own schedule.

- Completing project background reviews, field investigations, data compilation and analysis and report writing.
- Collecting field data and observations in an accurate and well-organized manner.
- Completing tree inventory and protection plans, edge management plans and contributing to restoration plans.
- Reviewing and summarizing environmental policies and legislation such as municipal official plans and the Endangered Species Act.
- Working collaboratively with the project team, with some understanding of integrating study disciplines.
- Assisting with agency consultations.
- Assisting with environmental permitting and approval processes.
- Managing project budgets, scheduling and deliverables.
- Communicating effectively with clients and project team members.
Skills/qualifications:
