Press release – Palmer Environmental Consulting Group Inc. [Palmer] to join SLR Consulting (Canada) Ltd. [SLR] to further strengthen our environmental consulting teams in Canada.
We are pleased to announce that SLR has entered into an agreement to acquire Palmer. The transaction is subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions and is expected to close in early November 2023.
Palmer is a Canadian environmental consultancy with approximately 100 team members located in British Columbia and Ontario. The Palmer team brings a strong client focused approach and value-based partnership to deliver technically based solutions to help clients meet their environmental and regulatory challenges and project development goals. The team recognizes the importance of the linkages within the natural environment and integrates their services related to fisheries, aquatic, and terrestrial ecology, hydrogeology, water resources, geology, and geomorphology in developing effective project solutions. These services together with geotechnical engineering are provided to the mining, infrastructure, and land development markets across Canada.
This acquisition will strengthen our ability to support clients and is another step in our strategy to expand and diversify the range of services and technical depth of our teams in Ontario and British Columbia, and across Canada. Over the past year we have had some great opportunities to work with the Palmer team and are excited about the new opportunities this brings to the Canadian business to further expand our client basis and service offering.
Neil Penhall, SLR’s CEO, said, “I am delighted to be welcoming the Palmer team to SLR. Palmer are one of the leading ecological and environmental consultancies in Canada supporting the mining and built environment sectors to drive positive outcomes for their clients. Their expertise will build upon SLR’s existing environmental capabilities and will result in one of the largest environmental teams in Canada to support our clients in Making Sustainability Happen.”
Craig Johnston, SLR’s Canadian Regional Manager, added, “I have had the pleasure of working with and getting to know the Palmer team over the years and am excited to welcome them to the SLR family. We share common visions and values for our staff and how we work with our clients to deliver value-based solutions and build trusted partnerships.”
Palmer’s founder, Rick Palmer, commented, “We are excited to be joining the SLR team. Palmer’s core values are caring about our clients and fostering a strong team culture based on autonomy and solving challenging problems. I feel like we have found a partner company in SLR that aligns very well with those values. Together with SLR’s broad range of services, and geographical reach we can provide additional opportunities to our growing team, and continue to support our clients across Canada.”
