TransCanada Pipelines Limited is proposing to construct a pipeline to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) across northern British Columbia from the Dawson Creek area to coastal British Columbia, near Kitimat.
Palmer Environmental Consulting Group Inc. (PECG) was retained by TERA Environmental Consultants to contribute geomorphological insight to the comprehensive archaeological assessments it was responsible for completing along the proposed pipeline corridor. PECG developed a desktop-based approach for completing detailed mapping of landforms, site disturbance history and the preservation potential of any archaeological artifacts. Our ‘Geomorphic Overview Assessment’ was based on high-resolution aerial photography, bare-earth LiDAR hillshade models and surficial geotechnical field data.
PECG’s innovative mapping helped guide field program planning and was appreciated by regulatory agencies for its role in better predicting and explaining the distribution of archaeological evidence across diverse landscapes.
