RE-INTERPRETATION OF ‘KIM’ DATA FOR DIAMOND EXPLORATION AT THE REDEMPTION PROJECT, NWT

A unique and innovative approach to extracting more information from existing kimberlite indicator mineral data sets in the Lac de Gras region.

Palmer Environmental Consulting Group Inc. (PECG) was retained by North Arrow Minerals Inc. to help delineate lower-risk exploration targets by reducing the geomorphological variability within public and private kimberlite indicator mineral (KIM) data sets. This project established a high-resolution surficial geology context as a basis for interpreting and improving the definition of the South Coppermine indicator mineral train, in an ultimate effort to identify its elusive source.

PECG identified and delineated different surficial materials, and surficial processes, that can alter the concentration of KIMs. This information was used to filter the data set, which was then levelled based on inherent geomorphological variation, to produce a directly comparable data set with normalized anomalies and a more accurate representation of the dispersal pattern.
