Junior Water Resources Engineer

Overview

Palmer’s Water Management team is seeking to hire a Junior Water Resources Engineer, to support our group’s expanding involvement in both municipal water resources and mine water management projects across Canada.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, qualified candidate to join our growing team of environmental professionals that include hydrologists, water resources engineers, hydrogeologists, fluvial geomorphologists, environmental scientists, and terrestrial and aquatic ecologists.

The responsibilities of a Junior Water Resources Engineer are expected to include (but are not limited to):
– Performing baseline climate and hydrological studies for projects across Canada.
– Constructing and maintaining mine site water balance and water quality models.
– Performing hydrological modelling to evaluate rainfall-runoff responses (discrete and continuous).
– Hydrotechnical design of surface water management infrastructure.
– Hydraulic modelling of natural and engineered channels.
– Contributing to erosion risk assessment and design of natural and engineered channels.
– Installing and/or monitoring hydrometric and weather stations.
– Performing in-channel streamflow measurements and water quality sampling.
– Technical report writing.

Requirements

– An academic background in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or similar) is preferred, with a focus in Hydrology, Water Resources and/or Fluvial Geomorphology. A Master’s degree is not required but would be considered an asset.
– A registered E.I.T (Engineer-in-training) with a recognized provincial association, or ability to register within six months.
– Prior experience (2 – 3 years) working in environmental or engineering consulting, preferably with exposure to mining projects.
– Prior experience with relevant industry software, e.g., GoldSim, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, R/RStudio.
– Strong technical writing and oral communication skills.
– Ability to work independently and make decisions based on sound professional judgement, as needed (field and office).

Other desirable skills and capabilities:
– Experience with Raven, Python, Matlab.
– Field experience at operational mine sites and/or knowledge of mine water management objectives.
– Geomorphological assessment of natural channels.
– Prior experience with surface water quality sampling.
– Hydrometric instrumentation and data collection.
– Hydrologic data management.
– Knowledge of common statistical techniques used for environmental data analysis.
– Prior experience with proposal writing and/or project management.

Work Location:
This position is based in Toronto or Vancouver. Travel to both local and remote sites in Canada may be required to satisfy project requirements.
